It is still a long road ahead in terms of what I have envisioned and where I see myself as a successful entrepreneur. But there is no doubt that the journey is simply amazing and very enriching, every step of the way. I’m going to tell you my entrepreneurial journey, simply in 4 words!
4 entrepreneur lessons I have learnt:
Without a clear vision, it can feel like driving on a road without a destination. It is easy to get demotivated and give up when the journey seems incredibly long without milestones. So, how exactly do we change this and bring clarity?
What I found super helpful was a vision board. A vivid picture, for example of what life would look when I became a successful personal stylist and shopper. The more detail you can see the better it will get I can assure you. The next step is then to work backwards and identify some of the key actions you need to take in getting there. Make these SMART goals (I’m sure you’ve heard of that before!) Break them down even further and convert them into monthly, weekly and even better, daily tasks and keep at it. Seems hard? Well you don’t have to do it all alone..
Entrepreneurship can seem like a lonely track but believe me the support system you build around you is what is going to get you over the line, especially on days when you so want to give up! Start by connecting with like minded entrepreneurs, there is loads you can share and learn from each other. Make a mentor. Mentor-ship training is widely available and all you need to do is find someone who’s ‘been there, done that’ and is willing to share their wealth of experience and knowledge with you.
Hang out with the kind of people you aspire to be like, the positive energy is sure to rub off on you!
There is so much around to be inspired by and anyway ‘What is original in today’s super fast paced world?’, you ask. But there is ‘only one you’, very cliched statement I know but it is absolutely true! Ingenuity and being authentic is going to take you a long way rather than just doing something coz it’s trending or because you like another person’s idea. Remember that people can tell when you are faking it! Ideas can be born out of inspiration around you but your unique spin on things, your inner voice is what will play a powerful role in taking you in the right direction.
Last but not the least, the one thing every business is about- the CLIENT! What confused me most when I started working on promotions was the fine line between optimum marketing and sounding too ‘salesy’. The worst thing would be trying to sell your product to a person who does not want it, that would mean you losing the potential client for good!!
The skill lies in matching ‘demand and supply’. It is critical to do the research and be fully informed about where your potential clients are hanging out and how you could possibly connect with them. Remember that someone will only pay you if they trust your abilities and expertise. There is a lot of power in ‘word-of-mouth’ marketing. So remember to tap into your network to see how you can utilize its potential and always be grateful for all that you receive.
